What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are small posts that are made from biocompatible materials like titanium, zirconia, and ceramic. Designed to replace the root structures of missing teeth, they’re surgically secured within the jawbone and naturally fuse with the bone through a process called osseointegration over the course of several months. After this, they’re ready to provide unwavering support to a free-standing dental crown, bridge, or full denture.
The 4-Step Dental Implant Process

The process of receiving dental implants is significantly more complicated than traditional restorations, but this specialized placement method is essential to allow the devices to develop the sturdy foundation they need to work and feel just like real teeth. At Prosper Dental Health, we are proud to complete the entire placement process in-house so our patients won’t have to worry about seeing an outside specialist who uses a different pricing structure. Here’s a quick overview of the four principal steps of placing dental implants at our office in Prosper.
Initial Dental Implant Consultation
During your initial consultation, you’ll meet with our prosthodontist to learn whether you’re a good candidate for the procedure and receive a customized treatment plan. This appointment will include a thorough oral exam, X-rays, and a discussion of your current medications and medical history. Some patients may need preliminary procedures like tooth extractions, gum disease therapy, or restorative work before receiving implants, and we’ll be happy to perform these treatments in our Prosper office. If you need bone grafts to reinforce your jaws, we can refer you to a trusted specialist. When you are ready to receive implants, we’ll be happy to schedule you for surgery.
Dental Implant Surgery
Our in-house periodontist, Dr. Vazquez, will surgically place the dental implants beneath the gumline. The whole process is rendered completely painless by local anesthetics, but some patients may benefit from sedation treatment as well. After your implants are placed, you will need several months for them to fuse with your jawbone through the natural process of osseointegration.
Dental Implant Osseointegration & Abutment
During the three to six months after your surgery, your implants will fuse with your jawbone. When this process is complete, you’ll return to our office for a minor surgical procedure that places abutment pieces on top of your implants. These devices will hold your restoration in place, and you’ll be ready to receive your prosthetic device several weeks after this procedure.
Delivery of Dental Implant Restoration(s)
After you have healed from your abutment surgery, you’ll return to our office to have your customized bridge, denture, or crown securely anchored to your implants. We’ll then check your bite for comfort, make any final adjustments, and send you on your way with detailed instructions for caring for your implants and your restoration. You’ll then be ready to show off your beautiful and complete new smile to friends, family, coworkers, and strangers.
Who Dental Implants Can Help
Our team will design your dental implant treatment plan to match your individual needs during your consultation. Depending on your unique tooth loss situation, we may recommend any of the avenues below:
Missing One Tooth

To replace a single missing tooth, we will secure one dental implant beneath the gumline. This will act as a strong foundation for a free-standing dental crown, effectively filling the gap between your two teeth without requiring the alteration of any of your existing teeth to preserve as much of your natural dental structure as possible.
Missing Multiple Teeth

If you’re missing several teeth in a row, we can secure a bridge to two or more dental implants. Or, we can use a combination of implant bridges and implant crowns to restore several missing teeth throughout the arch.
Missing All Teeth

While dentures can restore the visual of your smile, they often lack in the functionality department. We can make your prosthetic even more functional by attaching it to between four and eight dental implants surgically seated within the jawbone. As a result, you won’t have to deal with them slipping or shifting, and you’ll regain up to 80 percent of your natural chewing power.
All-on-4 Dental Implants

While any dentist can offer All-on-4 dental implants, our prosthodontist and periodontist at Prosper Dental Health are specially trained in this procedure. Our unique qualifications and additional training in treating complex tooth loss cases allows us to restore a smile using just four dental implants to secure a full denture. In many cases, utilizing this technique allows patients to avoid the need for preliminary treatments like bone grafting.
Advanced Dental Implant Procedures

Dr. Yaritza Vazquez, our in-house periodontist, is trained in a variety of surgical techniques involving the soft oral tissue and bone. As a result, our team provides preparatory treatments like tooth extractions, bone grafting, and ridge augmentations to prepare your smile for success before you undergo dental implant placement.
